Superior mid 19th century Scottish rosewood and brass bound writing box or lap desk in mint condition. Made by S. WOOLFIELD, 66 BUCHANAN STREET. GLASGOW. There are two makers labels inside the box. This is a high quality item made by one of Scotlands finest box makers of the 19th century. It is all completely original except for one of the ink bottles. The interior secret drawers are beautifully made. The inside has its original tooled leather. Apart from the one bottle this is as good as they come and very clean. The box retains its original key and the lock works perfectly.

The brass inlaid shield to the top of the box is inscribed "JOHN SMITH 1857"
