Product Information
Specification

FINE & RARE 19th century large Gents hooded Orkney chair in un-touched original condition. Made by Kirkness of Kirkwall around 1880 - 1890. This is without any doubt the best early Orkney chair I have ever owned. Oak framed with a drawer to the front with original lion handle. The wood is all a gorgeous colour with super dark patination.
The straw work on the chair is basically in pretty decent order but there is a small hole at the base of the back where it joins the seat in the middle and there is also some wear to the back pointed area of the hood on the outside. There is minor movement to the straw back but nothing serious. I have never seen one of these large Orkney chairs from the 19th century as original as this ever. A rare find.

There is still one company making new ones like this but they are over £5000 and there is a 3 year waiting list.
