Early Scottish Wemyss ware Large tankard with the earliest red rim and handle. Being an early piece it is beautifully painted in great detail in the black hens pattern. I have another slightly later black hens tankard in stock and it is no where near as well painted as this example. With the red rim this dates to the late 19th century. Condition is pretty good, there is minor staining and it looks like there has been an old minor repair to the handle. Impressed mark to the base.
